What is a Rubik's cube?
A Rubik's cube is a 3x3x3 puzzle of 26 small cubes on a central core, invented by Ernő Rubik in Budapest in 1974. Each face turns independently, scrambling the six colors; the goal is to return every face to a single color. It has 43 quintillion possible positions and can always be solved in 20 moves or fewer. Modern speed cubes turn faster, corner-cut and often use magnets to align each turn.
Who is this collection for?
🧩
For a child who has just solved the 3x3
From 8 upwards. Once the classic is done, a mirror cube, a megaminx or a twist cube resets the challenge without changing the logic.
🎁
For a gift that fits in a stocking
Parents and grandparents after a small present with a long life. A cube gets picked up hundreds of times and never needs batteries.
🧠
For adults who solve on the train
Speedcubers, puzzle collectors and anyone who likes a fidget with a goal. Magnetic and stickerless cubes are built for fast, precise turns.
How to choose a Rubik's cube
Start with the 3x3, which every tutorial is written for. Then branch out: bigger cubes for a harder challenge, shape-shifting cubes for a new logic, themed cubes for a gift.
| Type | Best for | Difficulty | Price |
|---|---|---|---|

| 2x2 and 4x4 cubes | Speed (2x2) or a harder challenge (4x4) | Easy to hard | $15 to $35 |
| Mirror, twist, pyramid and megaminx | Solvers bored with the shape | Medium to hard | $15 to $40 |
| Themed and giant cubes | Gifts, collectors, display | Varies | $30 to $120 |
Stickerless cubes never peel. Magnetic cubes snap each turn into place and suit anyone chasing times. All our cubes come pre-lubricated and ready to scramble.
The science in two lines
The cube is a physical model of group theory: every move is a permutation, and solving it means finding a sequence of permutations that undoes the scramble. Beginner methods use a handful of short sequences (algorithms) that move a few pieces without disturbing the rest.
